Horchata Overnight Oats

As a baby-faced 18-year-old I was introduced to horchata at a local taqueria in Long Beach, CA. Horchata, as we know it in the USA, is a delicious cinnamon milk-y riced or coconut based drink. Today, I’ve paired one of my favorite breakfasts with my favorite drinks! I present you Horchata Overnight Oats (and a Protein Oats variation)!

Some Cool Facts about Horchata

Horchata’s roots are based on a 13th-century recipe from Valencia, Spain, called ‘orzata de xufa.’ It consisted of “soaked, ground and sweetened tiger nuts” . Since it’s creation, horchata has traveled far and wide along Spanish trade routes and colonies – you can find horchata drinks in Spain, West Africa, and throughout the Americas.
